New Business Grant Grand Finale Pitch Contest
At the end of 2016, Princeton Renaissance Project announced its inaugural New Business Grant program for downtown Princeton. Several applications were received and on Thursday, March 9th at 7pm in The Room Upstairs, the entrepreneurs will compete in the Grand Finale Pitch contest for cash grants, advertising packages and other prizes. The public is invited to cheer on the entrepreneurs and learn about their business endeavors downtown. 4 winners will receive $3,000 to go towards rent of a storefront on Mercer Street and a free membership to the Princeton-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce, and a variety of other cash prizes and perks will be awarded to select contestants. Other incentives for the winners and all new businesses include waived B&O taxes for the 1st year of business in the City of Princeton and ongoing coaching and workshops.
The grants are made possible by Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh through the Blueprint Communities Min-Grant program, and the pitch contest is sponsored by A Vision Shared of Charleston and a variety of community partners: WVNS, KissFM, Star-95, Bluefield Daily Telegraph, Princeton Times, Princeton-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce and more.
Princeton Renaissance Project team member and assistant city manager Mike Webb says, “I am extremely excited about the fact that new businesses will be locating on Mercer Street! It will be so good for small business owners, the business community, the community at large as well as all those who have been involved to make this happen.”
Downtown business owner Melissa McKinney says, “We are exited to have new neighbors downtown! When my students and their families come to their lessons, (at Stages Music School) they are always looking for places to eat and shop, and we are really looking forward to having other businesses here to synergize with, to cultivate that friendly neighborhood feeling that has been building downtown.”
The pitch contest will be hosted by The RiffRaff Arts Collective in The Room Upstairs, a beautifully restored turn of the century ballroom. The evening will feature live music by the local band based in downtown Princeton “The Change” and refreshments. Anyone is welcome to enjoy the evening. For more information, please call 304-320-8833.
